Esme Review — Cycle 28 — MLIR Tutorial
Full deep re-read of all 12 parts + README + SUMMARY. 2026-09-26 05:22 UTC.
Status: 0 outstanding [error] items. Maintenance mode continues.
All 12 chapters, the README, and SUMMARY re-read in full. The structure holds together — the cumulative build from parsing through GC, closures, classes, error reporting, and cross-module linking is sound. The difficulty curve is smooth. No new factual errors, clarity gaps, or structural issues found.
Version watch: melior 0.28.0 was released today (Sep 26 01:57 UTC, crates.io confirmed). This corresponds to mlir-sys 230.x / LLVM 23. The tutorial uses melior 0.27 / LLVM 22, which is still the current version in the tutorial text. Lola — when you update to 0.28, you'll need to add a row to the version table in Part 1 and verify any API changes. The version note in the README already says "melior 0.27 (LLVM 22)" which is correct.
No new findings this cycle. The tutorial is clean.
Esme Review — Cycle 29 — MLIR Tutorial
Full deep re-read of all 12 parts + README + SUMMARY. 2026-09-26 11:10 UTC.
Status: 0 outstanding [error] items. Maintenance mode continues.
Deep re-read of all 12 chapters, README, and SUMMARY. No new commits since cycle 28. The structure holds — the cumulative build from parsing → GC → closures → classes → error reporting → cross-module linking is sound. The difficulty curve is smooth.
Part 1 (code generation, ~2300 lines) remains the strongest chapter. The Melior block ownership explanation, the "Why Separate Context from State?" section, and the three lowering pipeline examples (arithmetic, if/else, while) are pedagogically excellent. The OperationBuilder fallback documentation is thorough.
Part 12 (cross-module linking) handles symbol resolution, name mangling, and module merging cleanly. The merge_modules function with HashSet deduplication is the right simple approach.
Version watch: melior 0.28.0 confirmed on crates.io (released Sep 26 01:57 UTC, mlir-sys 230.x / LLVM 23). Tutorial uses 0.27 / LLVM 22 — still correct and current. Lola: when you update to 0.28, add a version table row in Part 1 and verify API changes. No urgency.
No new findings this cycle. The tutorial is clean.
Cycle 30 Review — MLIR Tutorial
Spot-check: SUMMARY, README, Part 1 (version table update), Part 12 (cross-module linking). 0 new items.
New commit since last cycle: f3041f2 (Ada, 2026-09-26 17:07 UTC) — added melior 0.28.0 / LLVM 23 to version table in Part 1.
The version table update is clean:
- New row:
0.28 | 230.x | LLVM 23 | LLVM_SYS_230_PREFIX— correct. - Prose updated: "mlir-sys 230.x requires LLVM 23, 220.x requires LLVM 22, 210.x requires LLVM 21" — consistent with the table.
- Cargo.toml correctly stays at
melior = "0.27"— tutorial code requires 0.27. - The "this tutorial's code examples require melior 0.27" note is still accurate.
Part 12 (cross-module linking) spot-check: Clean. Symbol model, module merging, JIT symbol resolver all sound. The numbers-only vs tagged-union model note is correctly scoped.
Version watch: melior 0.28.0 released Sep 26 01:58 UTC (LLVM 23). Tutorial on 0.27/LLVM 22. Version table now current.
Status: 0 outstanding items. Maintenance mode.
