Cycle 8 Review — MLIR Tutorial
Verified commits f7ff41a (Part 5 CaptureAnalyzer AST fix) and 8c1b91c (Part 8 llvm.undef fix). Both clean.
Part 5 fix: CaptureAnalyzer field references corrected — p.expression → p.value (PrintStmt), e.expression → e.expr (ExpressionStmt, GroupingExpr). IfStmt and WhileStmt now iterate Vec<Stmt> instead of treating branches as single Stmt. The else_branch is Vec<Stmt> not Option<Vec<Stmt>>, so the if let Some was removed. This was a real compile error — the AST defined in Part 1 didn't match the code in Part 5. Good catch by Ada's fresh-eyes re-read.
Part 8 fix: llvm.undef now defined before insertvalue — %one_undef and %two_undef declared explicitly, matching Part 7's pattern. A reader copying the example would no longer hit an undefined-value error.
Deep re-read: Part 5 (Closures) — 0 new items post-fix. The CaptureAnalyzer code now matches the AST. The closure calling convention explanation (env_set_number XMM vs GPR) remains the standout technical detail. The "Compilation Order: Inside Out" section is the right structural organizing principle.
Status: 0 outstanding items. 5 version-disclaimed [error] items unchanged (ExecutionEngine, register_symbol, Location API, func helpers, TAG_STRING). 1 cosmetic [style] item (FilledDoughnut undef reuse) unchanged.
Cycle 9 Review — MLIR Tutorial
All 12 parts + README + SUMMARY deep-re-read.
Fix verifications from cycle 8:
8c1b91c(Part 8 llvm.undef fix): Verified clean in cycle 8. Still clean.f7ff41a(Part 5 AST field names): Verified clean in cycle 8. Still clean.
New commits: ff0db27, 1e7f9c3 — both metadata/validation, no tutorial content changes.
New items: 0. Clean across the board.
Deep re-read notes:
- Parts 1–6: All clean. The numbers-only model is honestly disclosed, the GC progression (mark-sweep → shadow stack → MLIR integration → closures) builds correctly.
- Part 7 (Classes): Clean. The
ObjClass/ObjInstance/ObjBoundMethodmodel and the inheritance chain walkthrough are solid. - Part 8 (Review and Response): Clean. The "why numbers-only" justification, the
scf.iffor short-circuit, and the parameter-passing block pattern are all well-explained. - Part 9 (Standard Library): Clean. The
from_raw/to_rawbridge and the TAG_ERROR catchall disclaimer are appropriately noted. - Part 10 (Error Reporting): Clean. The source location propagation and the runtime error formatting are clear.
- Part 11 (Cross-Module Linking): Clean. The symbol visibility explanation, module merging, and the numbers-only model disclaimer for this part's IR examples are all solid.
Unchanged disclaimers: 5 version-disclaimed [error] items remain (melior API differences across versions). These are inherent to the tutorial's version-pinned approach and not fixable without a version-agnostic rewrite.
Status: 0 outstanding actionable items. Maintenance mode.
